When I try to open a file I received in an e-mail, I get the message: "THIS
FILE DOES NOT HAVE A PROGRAM ASSOCIATED WITH IT FOR PERFORMING THIS ACTION".
How do I create an association in the Folder Options control panel> Where is
the Folder Options control panel?

The message means that Windows doesn't know what program to run to open that
file. When data is created in a program, it is created in that program's
file format. In order to "read" that file, you need to have the same
program installed OR another program that can read the file format.

If you tell us the file extension of the attachment, we will probably be
able to tell you what program you need to view the file. The file extension
is the three letters after the "dot" in a file name., like "my-letter.doc".
The ".doc" would tell Windows that "my-letter.doc" will open in MS Word.

You may have the file extensions hidden. Go to the Folder Options applet in
Control Panel and click on the View tab. You'll see a box where you can
uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". Do that and then Apply/OK
out. Now you'll be able to see the file extension of the attachment. Post
back with that information for more help.
