Kyle R

I'm running XP and IE 6, and for the last 3 days, every
time I try to open IE, I get the message "Internet
Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

The Error signature says
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106
ModName:ntdll.dll ModVer: 5.1.2600.1217
Offset: 000339db

Hopefully someone out there can at least point me in the
right direction. Thanks for everything.

I too am having a problem getting IE6 to open, no matter
what. I've reinstalled the browser several times and I
still get the error. It just started avbout 4 days ago.

Can someone please help!

I have that same problem. I tried to reinstall and it claims I already have a newer version of IE and won't let me install. I got rid of my old version and it still gives me the same error. Anyone got any ideas on how we can fix this?

Maria,
This is probably being caused by another program- possibly adware, spyware,
parasite.
Download and run run CWShredder from
http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads/CWShredder.zip
CWShredder is only about 125 KB so it could be downloaded from another
machine onto a floppy disk if necessary.

If CWShredder isn't the cure, try Ad-aware and Spybot S&D:
See:
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Also note the security tips on that page.

Less likely, but it could be a legitimate program such as AV, ad blocker,
security, etc.

I am having same problem Kyle!

i had the same problem and was able to correct it. I set up a new user account with limited access status. When I logged in under that user account, I could open IE. A suggestion I read in another bulletin board said to open an IE session. Click on tools, then internet options, the advanced tab. Uncheck the box that says "enable third-party browser extenions". This immediately fixed the problem. It was caused by various adware and/or spyware programs. I went to Lavasoft and downloaded and ran their adware cleaning program. It found 132 offending files on my computer. I hope this helps.
