Opening email is slow with multiple recipients

I work at a hospital that has remote offices. The line speeds at the
remote offices are 128K. When people in the hospital send an email to
"All Users"(approx 1500 people), it takes forever to open the email.
It seems that Outlook "verifies" all email addresses before the email
opens. What I'm trying to say is that the email hangs until Outlook
goes through all of these email addresses. The time it takes to open
the email depends on the number of recipients. If there is one
recipient, the email opens almost instantly. We are running an
Exchange 2003 server with this. Thanks for any help on diabling this
"feature" or bypassing it.

Try disabling IM integration at the bottom of Tools>Options>Other.
