Hi there,

each time when I open Microsoft Word 2002, if seems to try to contect to the
printer as if I selected to print something. SInce I am sharing the printer
via a small home network, I often get an error, since the printer is off-line.

How can I change this and just open a new/existing document without first
trying to locate the printer.

Thanks in advance!

Make sure the printer driver is installed locally so that it will always be
available even when you are not connected to the network. Word requires
access to a printer driver (not the printer, just the driver) to function
properly.

Hi Suzanne,

thanks for your reply. Appreciate it!

I searched for the driver on the internet (Canon S600 seems to be too old
for Windows XP) and found a driver at some site, which I installed. As far as
I can right now, it has resolved the issue.

I have one more question, I would like to install this community in Outlook
Express and access the messages from there. I have searched for instructions
but could not find them.

Would appreciate it a lot, if you can tell me if this is possible and what
set-up (like server name) is required.!

Best Regards,
Ellen

See http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/resources.htm#setupmsnews Note that this
NG is microsoft.public.word.docmanagement. Once you have an account set up
for msnews, you can click on that account in your folder list in OE, then
click on the Newsgroups... button. You'll get a list of *all* the NGs on the
Microsoft news server; you can look for Word NGs specifically by typing
"word" in the "Display newsgroups which contain" box.

Hi Suzanne,

I already had this server set-up.. LOL

I guess it was not clear to me that Microsoft.public.word.docmanagement was
the same as the one I accessed via the web.

Receiving postings in Outlook has it's pro and con's. Con's is for one you
can't vote if the reply was useful or mark of you like to get a notification
for a message, but that is life!

Thanks again for your reply!

Appreciate it!

I think the plan/hope/ambition is that in the version of OE that ships with
Longhorn (the next version of Windows) we may be able to do some of those
things through OE. It's a trade-off, of course. For those who access NGs
infrequently (ask one question, get an answer, and quit), the Web interface
is (more or less) user-friendly and (fairly) easy to use. But it is very
inefficient, especially for people (like me) with a slow dial-up connection.
For people who visit the NGs many times every day (as I do), an NNTP news
client like OE is crucial. If I had to use the Communities portal, I
couldn't possibly cover as much ground as I do.

Yes, I understand Suzanne.

Well I am on Cable and I noticed that
http://www.microsoft.com/office/com...osoft.public.word.docmanagement&lang=en&cr=US
is much faster then my experiences with
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr....windows98&SLCID=NL&sd=GN&id=fh;nl;newsgroups

Actually when I accessed the latter, I still was on dial-up and searching
took a long time, as I recall. So therefore one of MVP's advised me to set
it up in OE, which I did.

Also the www.microsoft.com/office site is much more user-friendly and looks
more professional, somehow.

Anyways, thanks so much for your advice!
Ellen

That second URL appears to be for newsgroups in the Netherlands. Is that
correct?
