Opening Access 2000 files in 2003

I have recently installed Access 2003 after a crash. Every time I try to open
an Access 2000 file from before the crash, I get a message "unrecognized
database format". I do not have any other versions of Access available. How
can I use my files in Access and for Mail Merge?
 
The problem is more likely that your database files are corrupt than the
fact that you're using Access 2003.

By default, Access 2003 uses the same file format as Access 2000.
 
Thanks. I tried an older backup and the files opened with no problem. The
more recent backup was just before the crash and must have got caught in the
problem.
