I'm using XP home with SP2 and I've been noticing some really wierd slow
downs recently whenever I open a folder that has video files in it. This
happens regardless if it is viewed in detail mode, tile mode, thumbnail mode,
etc. However there is no slow down at all for quicktime .movs or any other
type of files. It seems to only effect .wmvs or dvx encoded video clips or
anything that defaults to open with Media Player. The size of the files
doesn't matter, it happens in a folder with one 20 meg video the same way it
effects a folder with five 600 meg video files.
I have since changed all of the file associations to a third party player
made by VideoLan but to no avail, same slow down occurs.
Whenever the slow down occurs my processor use spikes to 100%, which I
obviously don't like happening. The only information I can add is that if it
is in detail view I think that each file is slowly being scanned because it
takes a while for the duration, and codec information to fill the columns.
Whereas in a tile view mode the same slow down happens and I assume it's
scanning the files the same way.
Any help at all with this unusual bug would be greatly appreciated.
