1. I double clicked a file icon on my desktop.

2. A Windows window pops up indicating "Windows cannot open this file".

3. I opted for "Select a program from a List" and clicked "ok".

4. An "open with" window pops up and a program name that I had erroneously
chose during a prior session appears on the list.

5. HOW DO I REMOVE THAT PROGRAM NAME FROM THIS PROGRAM LIST?

If you want to prevent an application from appearing in that list, try this:

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\<program.exe>
(Example, for winzip32.exe it's HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\winzip32.exe )

In the right-pane, create a new String Value (REG_SZ) named "NoOpenWith" and set a blank value.

You can select Tools -> Folder Options in your MyComputer window (or Win
Explorer)
and then select the File Types tab. A list of file extensions is shown.
Select the problem file extension
and either change it to something else with the edit button, or delete it.
