Open windows full screen?

I'm a new user quite enjoying Vista so far, but I can't locate a check box
or whatever to open my windows full screen. Can anyone help me, it's quite
annoying when I'm mobile and don't have my mouse plugged into my laptop and
I have to maximise my apps to see the full picture using the touchpad.

You can right click on the program icon, choose properties, and change the
run default
to open maximized.
