Has Service Pack 1 been applied to Office 2003? Open PowerPoint, go to Help >
Check for Updates and follow the links.

Yes i had tried every option, all updates are completed. I can open these
files into powerpoint viewer but can not open powerpoint 97 file into
powerpoint 2003. it doesn't happens wiht only one particular file.i have
round 100 files .powerpoint 2003 actually opens the file but it takes tooo
much time..5 minutes and then to change slide it takes 40 -50 seconds to
change from one slide to another.

In addition to Sonia's suggestion to apply SP-1 for Office 2003 (which is
important to do anyway!), this could also have to do with your antivirus
program. Are you using Norton AV, by chance? See Norton Anti-Virus and
Office
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00387.htm for a bit of info on that.
