Is there a list of ports that are used by Windows XP Professional? Googleing for the port numbers (i.e 1025) provides me with incorrect data and I would like to be able to check googled results against known XP Ports before I get to concerned about what is open on my pc

There is good information on www.grc.com (Steve Gibson's site, safe for
you to visit).

There are 65000 ports to block. Hmmm. Try the Sygate Personal Firewall
for a software based approach that works well. A LinkSys cable/adsl
router is pretty cheap and is an excellent approach as well. Or you can
do both.
