I have a user who has password protected a word document
and can not remember his password. Is there a way to
access the document?

Thanks,
Dean

Dean,

you might try a hammer and chisel. But honestly, once one
loses the password to a password protected Word document,
or otherwise attempts to open one, will quickly find
little success. There are several services that would be
happy to charge you a hefty fee to crack the password for
you, but have not heard of anyone having success at that
for more than a character or two.

Carl and Dean,

I REALLY need a document open--it may have to do with a
Word glitch, since the same password that worked several
times on the same document will not work after a normal
reboot. Please share with me any solutions that you came
up with I would appreciate it very much. Thank you.

Passwords are case-specific - check the status of the caps lock key, etc.

Hi

Less likely but are you using multiple keyboards?

If so, are you hitting the same keys but on a 'different' keyboard ???

If your passwords are 'simple' eg only small letters, you could probably
crack it with a software designed to try certain combinations.(you did say
you were REALLY desperate)

Good luck

Hi,

No problem.

There are many password recovery tools available online for opening
password protected MS Word documents, and other files:

http://tinyurl.com/qfst

You can download some tools for Word passwords for free:

http://www.intertek.org.uk

N.B. Please do not attempt to access any file unless you are
authorised to do so.

Good luck!

Joe.
