Open Office question

I've been using Office97 and am thinking about updating to Open Office as an
alternative. One question:

I thought that OO used XML as it's native format. As I understand it, XML is
a text-based format similar to HTML, isn't it. A peek inside an OO file
reveals it to be a binary file. Is that what XML is?

Change the name of the file from watever.oot to whatever.zip. Now open that
zip file... inside you will see the following:

4 folders: Configurations-X, META-INF, Pictures, Thumbnails
5 files: Content.xml, meta.xml, mimetype, settings.xml, styles.xml

The *.oot file is merely a container for the actual contents of the file.
Pretty cool, eh?

Damn, that is neat! My next question though relates to document management.
Are there any file search tools that are capable of searching and archiving
the contents of these files, e.g. Copernic et al?
