If you people are so interested in security, why not let
users automate virus scanning for downloaded files? I
usually use Download Accelerator for downloads because it
has configuration options to let me automatically virus
scan every downloded file.

Most decent anti-virus programs have their own setting to do that.

Most AV software has a live scan that will check opened or saved files as
they are opened or saved... most also allow you to save and then select the
file for scanning on demand.

There is nothing to be gained by trying to scan files as they are downloaded
because no AV can check for "All" of the possible compression methods or
perhaps the use of two of them together. You would feel secure but a Virus
might still slip through. In any case a brand new virus probably won't be
detected... and most AV software is pretty poor at spotting Trojan Horse
programs and backdoors, so again it's simply a false sense of security.

What method do you use to check for Trojans?

Your AV will maybe detect two or three popular ones but not the less common
but more dangerous ones. You are in far more danger of picking up a Trojan
than a virus if you are downloading files...
