How can I change the alphabetization of the list in the "open file" box that pops up in Word? I'm running Office 2003 Prof.

You cannot. This list is the MRU file cache (Most Recently Used) and is
displayed in order the files were used.

Assuming you are referring to the Open dialog box rather than the task
pane, either right-click an empty area of in the background of the
dialog and select Arrange Icons By/Name, you may need to do this twice
depending on whether or not you want Ascending or Descending sort
order, or use the Details view and click the column headings to change
the sort.
