Not sure what you mean by "open", nor why you have to "search for them". If
you leave all your emails in your inbox, you might be better creating some
folders and filing read messages. That way, you only have unread messages in
your inbox and should cut down on the "searching". It should be easy enough
to see which are from family by their email address, but you could create a
rule to notify you. In OL2003: Tools, Organize, Using folders, Rules &
Alerts button, New Rule, set the appropriate condition. In the bottom pane
"play a sound when I get email from someone", click the "people or
distribution link", etc. etc.

Do you mean on arrival?

Anyway I don't think there's a way to have them automatically open in their
own window. What I did here was setup a rule that applies a colored flag to
mail from my family members. That way I can use the For Followup search
folder to all the mail items quickly.

Creating views or search folders, or applying colored flags or automatic
formatting is generally better than moving messages to different folders.
Use the unread view to hide the messages that are read.
