Recieved a document from a colleague. When viewing the document, the author's
signature didn't show, but when printing the document, the signature printed.
How did they do this? I would like to do the same...

Hi

There are several possibilities that I can think of for achieving this.

1. The text was formatted as hidden text (at Format > Font), and Word was
set so that it would not display hidden text (at Tools > Options > View) but
was set to print hidden text (at Tools > Options > Print).

2. The text was in a text box and Word was not displaying Drawing Objects
(at Tools > Options > View) but was set to print Drawing Objects (at Tools >
Options > Print).

3. The text was in a header or footer, but Word was not displaying the
headers or footers, as described at
Elusive White Space (Where did my header and footer go?)

Hope this helps.
