I am unable to keep more than 1 IE window open at a time. I have tried
the right click >> Open in New Window as well as double clicking the IE
icon. Each time the first window closes as the second opens up.

I'm not sure if this helps but I uninstalled SP2 and reinstalled SP2.

Any ideas?

TIA

In IE, Tools | Internet Options | Advanced, untic the "Reuse windows for
launching shortcuts. Ok out.

Thanks Rock, but no dice. I unchecked rebooted and still only 1 IE
window at a time.

Any other ideas?

Additional recommendations:

This is usually caused by third-party browser add-ons. Disable all Pop-up
blockers if installed any. Here is a detailed note from Don Varnau, MS-MVP
Internet Explorer.

<quote>
You probably have a program running which is blocking pop-up windows-
something like Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another) pop-up blocker, MyIE2 (or another shell for IE) etc.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program.

BHO Demon from http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm may find the
offending program/BHO.

Or it could be caused by spyware/parasites. Work through the solutions
(CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

You'd be interested in using my program ToolbarCop to disable the IE add-ons
(that includes browser extensions, toolbars, additional buttons to the
standard toolbar, Browser Helper Objects) selectively, to isolate the
problem. ToolbarCop can be downloaded from:

Thank you VERY MUCH, Rock!

I LOVE to learn new stuff!

(doesn't happen very often, as I've been at this for 30 + years now)

Happy New Year!

You're welcome, same to you.

Ramesh,

Thanks for the wealth of information. I installed both the MS
Antispyware and BHO daemon. Although I am still unable open more than
1 IE window, the Antispyware corrected a registry setting that opened a
WINDOWS directory on startup.

I can work around having only 1 IE window (using firefox) but I am
concerned that this IE issue may be a symptom of a larger more serious
problem.

Please let me know if there are any steps I can take to resolve this.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Have you tried disabling the IE add-ons and testing the behavior again. FYI,
there is an option called "Enable third-party browser extensions (requires
restart)" in Internet Options Advanced tab. Unchecking that box disables all
the IE add-ons, which is the best way to test.

Update.

I just rebooted after disabling the Yahoo companion (BHDemon). I am
now able to get multiple IE windows via desktop icon and right click >>

Thanks to all.

Happy New Year.

You're welcome. Yes. Yahoo Companion is known to cause this. As per my
