I have a EMachines laptop with windows xp. When I
click "help" "online support"........it takes me to
emachines web site. but, I want the microsoft support
website. I went to my registry and did this..
-Open HKEY_USERS
-Open .DEFAULT
-Open Software
-Open Microsoft
-Open Internet Explorer
-Open Help_Menu_URLs

-Double click on Online_Support
-Change the Value data to the website I want it to link to
-Click Ok
-Exit the Registry Editor window

Now when I opened Internet Explorer and clicked on
Help>online support.....
DID'NT WORK!! So, I went to tools, internet options,
advanced and restore defaults. DID'NT WORK! Could be that
in the registry I didnt type in the "exact" link
microsoft. I did it with the www and without the www.
(Emachines support didnt have the www. typed into the
registry) microsoft.support.com, micrsoft.com. Can
somebody help me here?

Microsoft does not offer free support for preinstalled, OEM versions
of Windows XP. Your computer manufacturer, eMachines, is totally
responsible for Windows XP support. Attempting to change to Microsoft
support will be of no value to you since you have an OEM version. Only
the conventional "retail versions" of Windows XP entitles one to free
Microsoft support (up to two instances).

Your best bet is to post a detailed questions to one of the Microsoft support
newsgroups if you prefer not to deal with eMachine's support.

Emachines support is the one I spoke with on how to
change the registy. They walked me through it. The only
reason I wanted microsoft support on the help menu is
because I read, post, and learn so much from their
website. Everytime I need any help I come here and read
for hours. Emachines site doesnt have any windows xp
issues, problems, newsgroups or anything. So, microsoft
support is of plenty of value to me. Thanks for your help.
