I am trying to make a professional website for someone.

Please could you help me, I want to know how you could do a online payment when a customer decides to buy something and then they say buy. For example when the customer says clicks Visa and if the customer enters incorrect number, so that a message comes up saying the following Visa Card is incorrect, I would like to find out who is doing that.

Do I need a server to do that or is there a companies that do that. If a company does it do you know which company.

I also would like to find out if you know any useful website that may help me do the above website. The current website I am designing is for a Computer Company, remember I am not paid to do the website as I am helping that person.

I have designed websites for my college assignments but it did not include online payment and so on.

Please could you reply if you have any suggestions,

Thank You Very Much

I would suggest you built the website based on a shopping cart Oscommerce.

With oscommerce you can control every single aspect of the venture from the sites display to customer payment and invoices.
http://www.oscommerce.com is the official website and will require you to install the software or visit our site for details on auto install. http://www.optic5.net/ecommerce.php

We also have a Case study on a client we used OSC for here ... Makes for interesting reading IMO

Remember there are many shopping carts that can do the same job but this is a free cart and in my opinion one of the better ones. http://www.hotscripts.com for a full list.

Second you require a "Payment processor"

A payment processor will allow you to accept major credit and debit cards, they will charge a small transaction fee around 2.5% to up 10%.

I would recommend the following plus they all have easy intergration to oscommerce.

http://www.worldpay.co.uk - UK based slighty expensive in terms of setup and ongoing fees but a very reputable company now operated by the UK bank Natwest.

http://www.2checkout.com - US based but accepts many currency. they only charge a small $49 setup fee and 5.5% of the transaction amount.

http://www.paypal.com - Do they really need explaining :-)

they will all intergrate to Oscommerce with a small module you can download and install free.

And your then online and trading !

Good luck with your project!
