Sorry if this is off-topic but I couldn't find a more appropriate NG. Can
someone simply confirm that MSFT's "HTML Help Workshop" program is still
relevant for creating online help (".chm" files). My (VS 2005) app is
targetting XP or later. Anything new that's specific to Vista is no good IOW
(if there is such an animal). Are ".chm" files the current (correct)
technology for creating help IOW (even if easier 3rd-party programs exist
besides Workshop - any you might recommend would be welcome however). Thanks
in advance.

I can't provide a definitive answer. However, I can tell you that a few
months ago, the HHW was still the most up-to-date help authoring tool I
could find from Microsoft, and it's what I used to compose help for one of
my applications.

There was a thread, either here or in m.p.dotnet.framework, that mentioned
some third-party tools people can use. It would be difficult for them to
_not_ be better than HHW, which is bare-bones and buggy. But they would
still use the same .chm format and help engine for Windows, I think. HHW
does work (I didn't enjoy using it, but it did get the job done and I'd
probably go ahead and use it again the next time).

Thanks very much. I'll try to find other sources to confirm it but I assume
it's probably correct (i.e., ".chm" files are still the way to go regardless
of what package I choose)

It may be safer for me to just stick with MSFT even if it's primitive. My
help isn't going to be fancy anyway. Thanks again for your help
(appreciated).
