I set up 3 networked computers. All work fine. I installed Windows XP "pro"
on main computer then bought a laptop with "home" edition (other two are also
home edition), but the laptop shows up on the network as an icon, but it
gives me the message "\\Laptop is not accessible . You might not have
permission to use this network resource. ...contact administrator...
....network path not found.

Is it because I'm using pro on the main? I have a wep key on my router, but
I didn't think that had anything to do with it. I am getting internet access
no problem. Just not my shared files.

Thanks to anyone who can help me out. It's frustrating!

Jules,

Make sure that you don't have a personal firewall or other security product
causing problems.

And make sure that NetBT is Enabled on all 3 computers.

If no help yet, check for are several other possibilities too, any might be the
cause of your problem. Read this article with an open mind.

Or look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and "net
config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem. Read this
article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download
browstat!):

I realized that I had a 3 month trial of McAfee on my new laptop that I had
never used before and it had a firewall up. I turned off the firewall and it
works, now. Thanks so much for your post... it was really helpful!
