I'm getting this every time one of my PCs starts up.

Seems to run OK once it finally finishes, but I'd like to cancel the check.

The message says "You may cancel the disk check,...." but does not offer any
means of doing so. Tried ESC, but no-go.

And it never hurts to check your hard drive's health with a diagnostic
utility downloaded from the drive mftr.'s website. You will create a
bootable cd/floppy with this file. Boot with the media you made and do a
thorough test. If the drive fails any physical tests, it's time to replace
it.

Open a command prompt (Start > Run and enter cmd)
In command prompt window, enter chkntfs /x drive_letter:

You must have male hard drives at that particular age if they give a message
that they need "to bechicked".
