One computer in network will not behave

I have 3 pcs, All WINXP Home with SP2. Whenever I try to secure the
wireless (all are wireless), one will not behave.

The latest example today, when setting up a WEP key, this machine says it is
connected, but I cannot obtain an IP. I've also had issues when doing a MAC
filter, or IP filter.

Today, I manually gave in an IP address, and that didn't work, though it
said it was connected. (I did put in the WEP key when connecting).

This is the machine that took hours to setup the wireless initially as well,
I feared doing the other two because of it, but they installed and work
flawlessly, even with the security settings.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried looking at your access point to see if it is set to allow more than 2 pc's. Some access points by default are set to only give out 2 ip addresses.

Google for winsockxpfix.exe. This will repair broken winsock services
that present the type of connection issues the laptop is showing.

Hi

You should have at least one wired computer attached to the Router;
otherwise it gets into a catch22 situation. I.e. you can not connect to the
Wireless Router to change the parameters that would allow solid connection.

Seeing signal in the Wireless configuration application or reading somewhere
in the system that you are connected does not mean that you actually have a
functional Wireless Network.

Jack (MVP-Networking).
