Once in standby, only way to get out is by rebooting.

When I put my computer into standby, it seems the only way I can get it out
is by manually turning off the computer by the button on the front, and
turning back on. I've tried ctrl alt del, esc, clicking, pushing random
buttons, etc.

Thanks for the help =)

Many computers can experience this problem, and it's usually a speed factor,
and isn't limited to jsut the windows operating system.

1. Is your computer an oldie running newie OS?
2. What screen saver are you runing before you go into standby - is it
something big like the Photo Slideshow.
3. Have you change your Scratch Disk Settings?

Is it XP with no service packs (It actually has this problem out of the box
and should be updated)

What ends up happening is that whatever you do to wake up the computer the
computer takes longer to wake up then the time allocated for switching into
the screensaver/standby mode - and it appears as if the computer can't get
out of standby - it's a lazy programming error from all the way back to the
first windows versions (Except that those versions wern't so bloated that it
took longer to wake than it took to sleep)

PS ther is a Fix for WIN98 if that is what your using.

Had the computer for a few years now, not an oldie. Running sp2. I actually
have it set so the computer will not go into standby on its own, only
manually, so no screensaver. I haven't heard of scratch disk settings,
please elaborate. The first time I had this happen was when I first used the
standby button on the windows media center remote, if that helps.

You might look in Device manager, Keyboard, Properties, Power
Management, and see that the keyboard is set to allow it to bring the
computer out of standby.
