Everytime I create a rule from a message, it automatically selects "On This
Machine Only" - however, the ending result is, that the rule doesn't work.

How can I reset this, so that it [On This Machine Only] is NOT automatically
selected?

Mike

Are you working on an Exchange account or POP3?
Version of Outlook?
Exact rule that you try to create?
Any more rules configured?

Tips of the month:
-What do the Outlook Icons Mean?
-Create an Office 2003 CD slipstreamed with Service Pack 1

Outlook 2003 - - POP3 - most of the rules are configured to move a message
to a different folder based on the FROM address. Regardless of the rule, "On
This Machine Only" is a default to every rule I create. I have to manually
unselect that option - which of course is annoying. I am trying to figure
out how to unset that option as a default. I searched the help files to no
avail.

There is no need to unselect that option. On this Machine Only means that it
is a client side rule and that it only works on that machine and while
Outlook is open. This is normal behavior of a POP3 account with a delivery
location of a pst-file.

Does the rule work when you disable all your other rules and then receate
the rule?

Any rule I create will only work, once I have unselected the "Only on this
machine" option. That is why I want to get rid of the option by default. It
is not working as it was purposed.

That condition seems to cause problems for a number of people.

Do you have the latest SP?

If SP1 is the latest. I'll check on that. Does it fix this problem?

Office Update didn't offer me a newer SP package than I already have.
Hopefully, an SP2 with a fix for this will be out soon?
