ON my monitor

I have a really Driving me crazy,the padlock icon which nornaly is at the
bottom of the screen is now in the middle of the screen and is 10 times
bigger and i cant get it to go away.Also my computer is a dell 3000 and the
insruction icon for ajusting resolution contrast ect also i showing in the
middle of the screen blocking everything behind it.
I have been searching for a answer all week with no result.

Are you talking about a Windows Problem
or a Dell PC specific problem?
 
Hi Andrew and thanks for the reply,yes it usualy is on the task bar or just
above the task bar at the very bottom of the screen anyway.

Do you know what program this is, or what is causing this icon to
appear? Never heard anything like this before.
 
Trust me to get a unique problem,normaly the padlock icon is the bar above
the task bar were the globe of the earth is with internet written next to
it,there is also a icon that when you hover the curser over it it says "pop
ups were not blocked"the other thing i was talking about works some thing
like this,on my monitor at the bottom of the plastic frame that holds the
monitor are three buttons that are used for adjusting the screen contrast ect
and when it is clicked a small icon pops up with all the settings on it so i
can ajust my screen to suit me,but it will not go away.

I'm guessing that this is some sort of Norton security program based on
your description of the "globe of the earth" icon next to it. Of course,
I could be completely wrong about that. As I said, this is just a guess.
There has been some mention in these newsgroups about a padlock icon
appearing in the middle of people's screens but I don't remember reading
any resolution. I can definitely tell you however that this is not a
Windows XP function. You must have some sort of third-party security
software running. Since I can't see your computer, you'll need to find
out what you have installed and do some troubleshooting of that
particular program. Once you find out what program is producing the
padlock you can contact its tech support people.

Let me clarify something: Normally there is *no* padlock icon, there is *no*
bar above the task bar, and there is *no* globe of the earth with internet
written next to it.

What you are describing is not the way Windows normally works, but something
unique to your machine, probably because of some particular software that
you have running on it.

So it's very difficult for folks here to help you unless you can identify
what software is providing what you are describing.

You might want to try right-clicking on some these bars and icons to see if
you can find some information about what all this is.
