Here's my problem. I download my mail, I respond to it, everything is
fine, but when I check the status of my on line connection, it shows that
it's still receiving data. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes.

Is there some software that will tell me what it is downloading when I
don't think I'm downloading anything at all?

Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded it, and I do get the ip address,
but no further information -- what is being downloaded, in other words.

I really need something readable -- name of file being downloaded, etc.

Thanks again.

Email, newsposts, etc., don't come in filenames, they come in packets
of raw data. Even if you're downloading a file, the file comes to you
as packets of raw data. The program that asked for the data knows how
to interpret it.

I figured out what was happening -- I have my XP set to automatically update
when Microsoft has an update available.

I don't know if this is safe or not, but so far it's been safe.

If updating XP is safe, automatically updating it is safe also.

Now, as to how safe it is to use a Microsoft operating system, ...
