I have loaded the software on my new XP Home Edition and
have hooked up the cable to the serial port. When I try
to get the pictures to download, I get the following
messages telling me that this cannot be done. Check...
1. the camera is plugged in and the power is on. (Have
done this)
2. Change the port setting. (Changed that)
3. Lower communication speed. (Changed that)
4. Camera's mode dial is set to outer connection mode.
(I am unable to figure out what this is. It is not in
the instruction manual.)
I tried an option that said to use a version that this
was compatible with before and chose Windows 98.

I'm still getting the same messages. Can anyone help me
on this? Thank you so much.

I quite frankly don't know anything about this camera.
The fact that you are using a "serial port" and "Windows 98" indicates to me
that this will not work.
You need to go to the Olympus internet site and see if they have software
for this camera compatible with XP.
If not, the way around it would be to purchase a USB card reader (about
$20.00) and place the camera memory card in it to download your pictures.

Likely a Camedia problem. I loaded Camedia's latest
version and it handled this same error for me. Do you
have Camedia Master 4.0 or better?

Don't know if this will help or not, but my Olympus does
not like to share it's com port with any other devices,
so if you are using Microsoft Activesync, or anything
like it, you will need to stop those programs from trying
to access your com port, preferably by shutting them down.
