Old Internet Explorer Version Blocking IE 6.0

I have an old verison of Internet Explorer that is titled "Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by American Online" that seems to be preventing my new Windows XP Professional version of IE from loading. I have to use Netscape to access the Internet. Is there a solution??

Go to Control Panel, Add Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components and
check Internet Explorer and follow the instructions. Then reverse the
process (you will need the XP CD) and you should be ok
