I just installed XP Pro on a laptop a couple weeks ago. Since then Ive been
having issues with the machine powering up. The power lights indicates power
is flowing to the laptop and the laptop does boot up and work properly, just
once out of abuot 100 tries :(. Any idea on this would be great appreciated.

Check with the Compaq website that XP is properly supported by your laptop..
if you see no reference to XP drivers, or anything XP, you may be best to
revert back to Win 98..

thats a good idea but my concern is, is this a response (not powering up)
that would be caused by the OS not being supported?

Xp is very strict on drivers issues. The laptop motherboard and some
installed hardware may have drivers that are not supported by windows
XPpro. Also it is recommended that 128mgs of memory be used to support
XP....although your laptop may indicate that it has that much it may
only have shared memory with the graphics card meaning that it is
below what would be the acceptable standard.

I don't think XP killed it. I think it's dying from hardware related
causes.

If it's not even flashing the compaq logo, it's a dead puppy. You can
STILL SALVAGE THE DATA from it. The hard disk is almost certianaly
alive.
