OL2003 text editor: [SHIFT][DEL] does not work properly

We use Outlook 2003 and I use the built-in editor (not Word) to produce
plain-text email. All the usual keyboard shortcuts work _except_ for
[SHIFT][DEL] which deletes the text but does not 'copy' it. So I end up
trying to 'cut' some text, which dissappears, but end up inserting whatever
was previously on the clipboard.

These shortcurts work in virtually every other program but not, apparently,
in OL2003. Can anyone suggest a setting that I may have enabled by mistake
or some work-around or trick that I can apply? Could this be something to do
with that annoying multi-entry clipboard thing?

Thanks for any help. This is really annoying me...

I didn't know about SHIFT-DEL, but I just tried it, and it seems to have
the same effect as CTRL-X (cut). So you are saying that both SHIFT-DEL
and CTRL-X do not work in your Outlook editor? Do you have any add-ins?
I remember that some older add-in did have a similar effect.

I tend to use [SHIFT][DEL] & [SHIFT][INS] instead of [CTRL][X] & [CTRL][Y]
as I find them easier to use. To answer your question, [CTRL][X] works fine
and is what I have to resort to, whilst [SHIFT][DEL] deletes the selected
text instead of 'cut'ing.

Add-ins (COM): the google desktop outlook toolbar is installed but not loaded.

Add-ins (Exchange):
~ Enterprise Vault
~ Google desktop search outlook addin
~ delegate access
~ deleted item recovery
~ exchange extensions commands
~ exchange extensions property pages
~ server scripting (disabled)

I never knew all that lot was installed! I do not know if any of those
might be responsible...

Mark,

Can you try to run Outlook in safe mode (start it with the /SAFE program
switch), and see if this fixes the problem? If so, then it is most
likely any of the add-ins causing the problem. Check if newer versions
are available.

Hi Pat,

thanks very much for trying to help. I did not know about safe mode. I
have checked and, yes, [SHIFT][DEL] does work properly again. Interesting!
I will disable the extensions individually until I track the culprit down.

Hi again,

I have now run through the list of COM extensions and the culprit is the
'Enterprise Vault' extension, something forced on us by our IT department and
not, it has to be said, a universally loved bit of software... Thanks for
your help in tracking this down.
