OL2003: I want all mails open to stay open even if I close OL

If I have several open e-mails that I'm reading (not writing, not replying
to, not forwarding) and I accidentally close Outlook 2003, all the mails
close with it. Same behavior for 2002, but in 20000, the main Outlook window
closed while the messages I have open stayed open until I closed them.

Anyone know of a workaround?

Are you using word as your editor? The messages should close with outlook,
unless you are using Word to read them.

Try this: open a new message form, enter "Ooops, don't want to close
Outlook" for the subject and save to drafts. Drag to the Outbox and now when
you accidentally close OL, you'll be asked if you really want to close it.

Or this: after first loading outlook, open a new message form and type some
garbage characters. Now if you close OL accidentally, you can cancel when it
asks if you want to keep the drafts.

I think you misunderstood. I'm not working on a message, I just opened a
message to read it and if I close Outlook, the message closes too. If I'm
writing one or replying or whatever, it will ask me if I want to save it. But
I'm not "saving" anything; just reading it.

Again, same behavior with 2002 but not with 2000. It's a known behavior in
Outlook whether you use Word or not as your editor.

P.S. I'm asking this odd question for a user; not for myself. ~:-0

But if you are working on a new message or one in the outbox, you can't
close Outlook accidentally. Expected behavior is Outlook and the message
forms will close when OL closes, otherwise, outlook is running hidden (check
the task scheduler on the Ol2000 system when the message remains open). Open
Notes used to do the same thing.
