OL 2003, 2 send buttons, neither works

Outlook 2003 running on XP Pro. There are now two "Send" options in
the drop-down send/receive menu. Neither one works. They are not
greyed out, but clicking on them does nothing. The only way this user
can send is to use the Send All option. The second "Send" option
appeared after he synched his Motorola Q this morning. This is
something that he has been doing at least once a day for a year.
Any ideas?

My user reports: "Outlook has seemingly repaired itself; turned
computer off and on, it said that it as restoring the folder, then
next time I opened it in safe mode, then it seemed to be fine (the
extra "sends" have gone away). Fingers are crossed. I think I may
have removed the device as it was shutting down, which may have
initially confused it somehow?"
