Okay... when I am in hybernate mode, I can't reboopt in safe mode. When I
press F8, isntead of the usual menu it says that system restart has paused
and I can either continue or boot up normally. I have changed my display
settings yesterday and it got all messed up so I can see anything. I can't
get out of hybernate mode because when it's supposed to go to the welcome
screen I cant see anything but a blank screen with a blue box in the middle
that says "out of range" (but thats because my monitor doesnt agree with the
settings I was trying to set) so the only way I can get out of there is by
rebooting which always puts in it to hybernation... help! I want to go to
safe mode so I can go into the settings and it will be back to normal but
how????? F8 doesnt work!

Heather

What do you mean by when you reboot it goes into hibernate mode? The only
way the computer hibernates is if you tell it to do so by clicking the
appropriate shutdown menu. If you reboot it shouldn't hibernate. Worst case,
shut it down and unplug it, then plug back in and turn it on. Should boot
normally. As soon as it starts booting press F8 repeatedly once a second
until the boot menu comes up.
Or a repair install might fix you up if you can't get into safe mode.

I don't have the answer off-hand for you but you should keep all of this
in one thread, not scattered across four of them.

Returning from hibernate brings the system back to the exact way it was when
the system was shut down. You do not have an option to change the boot
method for there is, in fact, no boot - just a restore from hibernate.

Try selecting boot up normally and then when it is finished booting up, shut
it down by using ctrl-alt-del. You may not be able to see the box that comes
up when you hit ctrl-alt-del because of the screwy resolution. But if you
press the s key, it will shutdown. Restart it and then see if you can use
the F8 key to get into safe mode.

No, when I press the power buttom (for that is the only way I can turn my
computer off now) thats when it goes into hybernate. I know this because
when my display settings were working I would do that sometimes and it would
hybernate it.

I also know that it is in hybernate mode because when I press F8 on startup
it goes to the hybernate menu, not the mornal one where I can chose to enter
in Safe Mode!

Help!

Wow, okay that makes sense. But when do I press ctrl alt del? How many
times? I didnt know you had to press "S"? when do I do that?

check your bios, and disable powermanagement features. and have a good
look the bios page to see if your power button is set to Hibernate, soft-off
or what ever. i myself had it set to somethin like "soft-off" and i had
to HOLD the power button for 4 seconds to turn off the power. and if
the reset button was held id go into a "hibernation like state" and would
only be able to exit by turning off my system.(wake or power button never
workd to revive the pc)

Press the S key a few seconds after you do the ctrl-alt-del. I forgot to
mention that you will have to press Enter to confirm the shutdown. You are
obviously on a pc that is working now, practice doing the ctrl-alt-del on it
to see how it works. Just don't hit Enter or you will shut down the pc you
are working on.

Yes, good advice. Usually you have to press and hold the button for it to
power off. Check the bios, etc..
