Hi,
I have been trying access some web pages but i keep getting this dialog box
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is located on the
Internet, connect to the Internet. If the file is located a removable storage
card, insert the storage card."
Also my attempt to access it display that Im offline although I have
broadband 24/7. A fews weeks ago i deleted all cookies from my computer. I am
wondering if this could be the reason for getting ' work offline' message and
by default it set me 'working offline' at the file menu for the pages.
I have contacted the the site and confirmed that the page is accessible by
clicking on it.
Please help, 'what could be the possible reason for showing 'working
offline' when i try accessing particular site?

Internet connectivity issues are often caused by malware. Therefore,
your first troubleshooting step should be to determine that your
computer is 100% virus and spyware-free. Here are general malware
removal steps. Do everything in Safe Mode with updated tools:

1) Scan in Safe Mode with current version (not earlier than 2004)
antivirus using updated definitions.

Before you remove malware, get LSPFix (or WinSockFix for XP which you
can get from MajorGeeks) - see links below.

2) Remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-aware. These
programs are free, so use them both since they complement each other.
There is a new version of CWShredder from Intermute. I would not
install the other Intermute programs, however. Alternately, there are
CoolWebSearch malware removal steps at SilentRunners.

Be sure to update these programs before running, and it is a good idea
to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode. Make sure you are able to see
all hidden files and extensions (View tab in Folder Options).

If the malware remains even after you used Ad-aware and Spybot, you can
scan with HijackThis. HijackThis is an excellent tool to discover and
disable hijackers, but it requires expert skill. See below for
HijackThis links, including sites where you can post your HJT logs. A
combination of HijackThis and About:Buster works well in removing the
About:Blank homepage hijacker. Again, this is an expert tool and
novices should get help with it.

3) If you are running Windows ME or XP, you should disable/enable System
Restore after the system is clean because malware will be in the
Restore Points. With ME, you must disable System Restore completely.
With XP, you can delete all but the most recent (presumably clean)
System Restore point from the More Options section of Disk Cleanup
(Run>cleanmgr).

4) Make sure you've visited Windows Update and applied all security
patches. Do not install driver updates from Windows Update.

5) Run a firewall.

thanks Malke for the information, but i still have the problem trying to
access particular websites. Today i bought nortion antivirus and scanned
through ma computer but shows no infection....
everytime i try to open the webpage my 24/7-broadband-internet-connection
shows i am offline, but this is happening only for particular website.
for example when i try to access www.kamemefm.com (to listen to audio) i get
http://kameme.cngs.com/ instead, followed by a message that i am working
offline and with an option of retrying connection again (it also shows
offline at File > work offline ticked by default). I am wondering it could be
something to do with 'cngs' between the URL and what could it be?
like i mentioned early, i deleted all my cookies can that affect or
contribute 'in not finding its way out?'
I am still getting this message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file.
If the file is located on the Internet, connect to the Internet. If the file
is located a removable storage card, insert the storage card."

your further advice will be valued
