I have a desktop at home, but use a laptop on the road.
If I have the same username setup on both machines, can I
make the entire folder for that username, which is in
the 'documents and settings' folder, available for offline
use?

What I want to do is have all the same desktop files, my
documents, outlook data files, etc. available on my laptop
when I travel.

Thanks in advance,
TW

TW:

Officially, that is called a roaming user profile, and it requires a server
per MS.

Unofficially, interesting thought.
My guess is that it would not work as a replacement for your local profile
folders, but you should have offline access to the cached files.
The profile folders are used during bootup to configure your environment,
whereas offline file system is more of a file access concept.
It is that bootup configuring that would be missing.

Summary guess:
If you add a shortcut to the desktop on your home computer, your portable
desktop would not show it. However, you should be able to access the
shortcut via the cached offline files on the portable.

If you were using a server based roaming user profile, the shortcut would
appear on the portable desktop.
