You might precise it's an English-German dictionary, as far as I see.

If you are always on you can use http://dict.leo.org/ which translates
english/ french into German & back.

And with a little widget (sorry, it became privatised and is now owned
by yahoo ) a small lion icon hovers in one of the corners of my screen.
You put the word you search into it - and you get heaps of answers.

i.e. you should master your grammar, the way to konstrukt your sätze and
your Wortschatz. No automated translation, fortunately

A nice extension is the link to the user group. Sometimes specific word
are not part of the vocabulary, and so there is a discussion between
users how best to translate some weird (mostly) German word, expression.
Very helpful sometimes.

And another extension: Englische Etymologie (Juni 2005)

Neben der meist knapp gehaltenen englischen Etymologie, die über den
-Button durch das Angebot von Merriam-Webster bislang zur Verfügung
gestellt wurde, steht nun als weitere Nachschlagequelle das ONLINE
ETYMOLOGY DICTIONARY zur Verfügung, das über den -Button verlinkt ist.

Notice that it says "offline dictionary". Am I misunderstanding
something?

This is the offline one, I downloaded it myself yesterday.
You can find the download link in a little box on the right, near the top of
the page.

I've discovered what the problem is.

I use Opera and there is a window covering the right-hand 3rd of the
dictionary screen and titled "Ads by Goooooogle". It was covering the
little download window.

When I started up IE, the nasty window was repositioned slightly more
to the right and uncovered the download box.

Thanks for all of the responses.

By the way, does anybody know what is causing the Goooooogle window?
I'm not mispelling Goooogle. It has 6 letter O's.

That's where I tried and could not find a download link.

It's not very hard to find :-)

Look in middle of the page on the right hand side.

There is a little icon that looks like a disk.

Click at it and your will get it!

Good luck

Jack,

I only downloaded the English-German/German-English dictionary, and it
amounts to 6,35 MB.
Maybe you wish to reconsider your decision?
