Office & Pocket PC should link contacts and calendar appointments

It seems basic that any time I make an appointment I should easily link it to
an existing or new contact. I would like it if every time I make a new
appointment the program would ask me to identify a contact. I found some
linkage in Office but it didn't fill my needs. Am I missing something? I'm
not the most computer savy person.

outlook's appointments have a contacts field you can fill in - if you need a
reminder to fill it in, you'll need to write some vba - see outlookcode.com
for code samples.

I have no idea who ppc supports for linking contacts...

In fact, if you are in the Contact item form, you can go
to Tools > New appointment with Contact, and it open the
Appointment form and will add the contact's name into the
Contact field for you.
(You can add this command to your toolbar, if you use it
a lot using Tool>Customize)
These appointments will now show up under the Contact
item's "Activities" tab.
