Recently every time I open Outlook it goes through a data file check. it
says it was not closed correctly. It used to work, no problem. Thinking, it
started after I installed Google desktop search. I do not currently have the
Outlokk/Microsoft instant search installed.

Could this be my problem. I am asking before uninstalling Google search
because of the long initial file search set up it went through.
Thanks, YB

Yes, that could very well be your issue. Since the indexing by Google
Desktop Search will index your mail via the outlook.exe process it most
likely will hold the process open and not allow you to fully close Outlook.
This means at shutdown Windows has to forcefully close the outlook.exe
process. The issue might solve itself when Google has finished indexing your
mail and will release the outlook.exe process.

I have exactly the same problem. I recently moved to a Vista PC and imported
my old datafile into the new PC. I do not have Google Search installed so
this is not the problem for me. Does anyone have any other suggestions. It
goes through the check everytime I open Outlook. Very annoying. Thanks
