Hi you all.

My marketing department want's me to implement at support for
installing MS Office or at least MS Word in my XPE project.

I've read the threads about licenses but I've failed to read if anyone
acctually got MS Word to work in XPE.

So if someone has any tips or trix how to make it possible to install
MS Word in XPE please let me know.

Regards,

Stefan

Hi,

Your legal department should check with MS about this. If they don't give you a go you should not bother with this.
Do you need Word only for reading doc files, or you need it for writing actual documents?

Regarding your question: Sorry I have never tried to install Word on XPe (never needed it actually) so I can't help you with this
technical side of problem.

Regards,
Slobodan

Thank you Slobodan.

Yes I will have my legal department check with MS so we don't make any
misstake. To be legal is a cornerstone in our company!

Word will be used to print reports from our test equipment and
preferably be used to make modifications in the reports. So I need
support for installing the full version of Word, not just a Word
viewer.

To be clear: It's only the end user that should be able to install
Word. The release of XPE will not include Word, just the ability to
install Word.

My question remains, is there anyone that hav included support in XPE
for installing MS Word?

Stefan

What type of "embedded" device is this that requires MS Word on it? As
Slobodan mentioned, you should talk to your distributor about the types of
Line of Business Applications allowed on XPe, your distributor is trained by
MS legal and Marketing on these things.

With respect to Office apps, usually the requirement is for a thin client
(small formfactor, low power cpu, extremely small footprint) to have access
to these apps, but the solution is to host these on a server and allow the
thin clients to use Terminal Server Client to remote into the server and
have full access to all the tools that are actually hosed on the backend.
