I have office xp and recently upgraded the outlook portion only to 2003. I am
getting this error when I use the program-There are no office assistant
character files present on the system. Run setup.
I have looked at articles 839132,839132,828956.These articles tell you there
is a problem but not how to fix it. Any body have any ideas. I also have
computers with office 2000 which I would like to put outlook 2003 on, as well
as the computers that have office xp. We purchased exchange 2003 and
licences. I need to know how to deal with this error. Thanks

You can only install and use one version of the Office Assistant. So you can
either use the Office 2003 or the Office XP/2002 assistant when you have
both version installed on a system.

Tips of the month:
-What do the Outlook Icons Mean?
-Create an Office 2003 CD slipstreamed with Service Pack 1

Does the conflict mean that both are installed? Do I turn off one and use the
other. I am not sure I understand.(a little slow) Thanks

When you only start Office 2003 applications you can use the Office 2003
Assistant (it will repair automatically or prompt you for the CD). When you
then start an Office 2002 application you won't be able to use the Office
2002 Assistant. Close all apps, load an Office 2002 app and the Assistant
will repair.
