Help.

I have multiple installs of office 97 on xp2 pc's which have intermittent
difficulties with saving excel files to the mapped server drive. The error is
something like "excel was unable to save... a temporary file has been
created..." Is this an incompatability issue?

Just a guess, but I wouldn't put more than one version on
the same drive.

I have tried repeatedly to put Office 97 on, then Office
2002 on, then Works 2002 on. (each has some different
programs in it)

Invariably, although they're in different directories, my
shortcuts that I install on my Quick Launch bar at the
bottom of the screen-- even after I go in and reprogram each
shortcut-- they STILL all open the most recent version I've
loaded.

and I DO want to use Word 97 for MOST of my word processing.
It opens in like 3 seconds. It takes Word 2002 roughly 30
seconds to open, and I would rather be doing other things.

Perhaps you could install your more modern Office version on
an external hdd, which you could then turn off if you just
want to use Office 97.

Good luck.

Yes,

Thanks for your reply, I have already been down that road and in relation to
the article:

permissions are okay
file name is okay
sharing is okay

Antivirus. If this is the issue what can be done other than diabling th AV?

Network connection: For what length of time would a network connection loss
be a problem. What I mean is if someone is temporarily disconnected from the
network (in milliseconds) due to traffic, is this an issue or only an issue
if the connection is lost during the save? This scenario is unlikely!
