I have Office 97 from old computer which I have upgraded
and they insist that I use Windows xp instead of windows
98. Windows xp computer only has Works 6.0 and Outlook
Express 6.0. Am I able to install components from Office
97 sbe safely with the compatability wizard? (The hard
drive has fried twice on new computer twice in six months
BTW)

The main components from Office 87 I want AT THIS TIME
are Outlook and Publisher. Do I need word 97 aND WORKS
6.0.
CAN I EVEN HAVE BOTH ? WILL WORKS WORK WITH OFFICE 97?
What components can I use if any ?

Any kind of expert advise would be helpful. I cant afford
the new office edition for XP or another fried hard
drive.)))

No, you can't. Office 97 Small Business Edition was available
only as an OEM (factory-installed) license. Such a license is
permanently bound to the PC with which it was purchased, and may not
be transferred to another computer under any circumstances.

If you want to use Microsoft Office on the new PC, you'll have to
purchase a retail version.

You know, I replied almost verbatim, what you've just told him, and Bob
Buckland (Office MVP) told me I was wrong and that it would work...

Based on other posts about MS OEM software, it seems that
MS says one thing in the EULA, and another on its tech
support lines (I had a similar experience a few years
ago.) If there is no licensing problem, go ahead and
install it. Compatibility mode is not necessary.

Oh, the software would probably work on the WinXP PC, but it is
still a violation of the EULA to transfer it to another computer.
