We almost bought a WINDOWS Vista computer today, but the salesman told us
that Office 2003 will not run on Vista Basic, and we would have to buy an
upgrade to Office 2007 as well. Is this true?

I believe that is false. A little web searching ought to verify that.

I have Office 2003 (student edition, same as Standard) installed on Vista
X64 Home Premium. Microsoft Document Imaging didn't install, but the other
applications and tools are all present and working. I am unaware of any
differences between Home Premium and Basic that would matter in running
Office 2003.

I'm sorry to hear that computer salesmen are still giving out misinformation
that actually puts a damper on their sales.

Return address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

That is indeed False!
I am typing this on a PC with Vista Home AND Outlook 2003
(Both working fine)

Not surprisingly, your salesman doesn't know what he's talking about
(or is trying to make extra commission). Office 2003 runs fine on
Vista.

Beware the salesmen at any of the big box stores. They are mostly
chosen for their willingness to accept something close to minimum
wage, not for their knowledge or technical skills.

JonJay,
That is false as i am running ms office 2003 on vista home basic and home
premium so dont listen to the salesperson i agree with ken

Thanks to everyone who replied. Yes, I was suspicious of the clerk at B**t
B*y. I normally don't shop there but I received gift certififcates at
Christmas. I checked several other independent web sites, and the repleis
agreed with these - MS OFFICE 2003 should work fine with WINDOWS VISTA BASIC.

I went back and bought the computer (actually free with the gift
certificates, etc.). If I get the bills paid and back from ice skating with
my daughter in time, I'll give it a go tonight.

Thanks again everyone!
