I don't have SP1 installed and everything is working fine. What benefits
and/or changes can I expect if I install SP1? Is it a necessary
installation? I don't want to mess anything up since the program is working
and not causing any conflicts.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;842532&sd=RMVP
contains links to a fix list for each Office application.

Is it required, no. Is it recommended, yes. Service packs always contain
security, stability, and performance fixes. In regards to Outlook, MS added
the ability to block mail at high-level domain name* and by international
encoding.

/neo

ps - high level domain = Country domain extensions (AU, AG, .etc) and not by
..NET, .COM, .BIZ. This list can't be modified.

One big benefits of SP1 is that O2K3 opens and closes much much faster. There
are many other security stuffs and some additions to O2k3 that makes it
worthwhile.

Also the SP1 repairs some flaws in word and excel concerning the viewing of
images etc etc

The SP1 is small download of around 10 Mb so I think overall it's worthwhile.
