Running XP-SP3 HE with 250Gb HD. Can someone tell me how large of an .iso
file would be created if I used something like Acronis to make a full backup
assuming the 250Gb was full. Thank you, Steve T.

Assuming you mean how large the resultant image would be (ISO is more of a
CD/DVD term - for an image (single file) of a CD/DVD contents) - then one
cannot answer that.

Acronis and other disk imaging utilities (Ghost, etc) that have the ability
to compress their files - well - will produce differing results depending on
what is being compressed. If you had 250GB of text documents, the
compression might be higher than if you had 250GB of JPG pictures stored in
already compressed RAR or 7Z files.

In other words - results may vary based off the content of the drive.

use Acronis True Image and create an image of your HD
This will create a .tib file which is aprox 60% of the used space of the HD.
My used space is 25gb and that created a 20,000,000 kb .tib file
You can also set the compression ratio higher

Acronis does not produce and iso file. The size of the resultant output
depends on your operating system and the format of the destination. For
example, if you are using an external HD that is formatted in FAT32
(most are by default) then the single size of the file may not exceed
4GB. This means you will have 100s of 4GB files on your HD.

If, however, you reformat the external HD to NTFS then the size becomes
academic because as far as I know NTFS has unlimited size but like
everything this can't be true. We know temperature can't be below
absolute zero but what is absolute zero? It depends on the time factor
and new inventions.

Thanks to all. I am running a 3-PC home network with a 250GB NS device. I
already do weekly backups of My Docs and was trying to figure out if I would
have enough space on the NS unit to store the 3 .iso, or whatever format it
is. My XP and my NS unit are both NTFS format. Thanks again, Steve T.
