Windows 2000 server and Windows XP workstation. Want to
setup simple off-line synch of e:\users\user folder. Set
it all up and it does synch the files. BUT it puts ALL
the files at the root of the shorcut to offline files
icon. It does not bring the sub-folder structure so the
data is useful. It DOES bring all the files but it just
lists thousands of them at the root. Any thoughts?

Mike:

Are you logging into XP with the domain user acct that marked the files as
available offline?

Note the following:
I ran into the same problem with Win XP Pro and Win2k3 server.
If I boot into Win XP Pro via the domain user acct that marked the files as
available offline, the files display in their subfolders.
If I boot into Win XP Pro via another domain user acct, the offline files
display w/o being located in their subfolders.

Comments on Offline Files in Win2k3 server:
Remember files on a ws are not normally backed up, so edited cached files
are vulnerable until the next synch with the server.
MS recommends not using Offline Files for best security.
MS Office Access dbase files do not work with Offline Files.

Results from tests performed with Win2k3 server and Win XP Pro:
For the domain user who marked the files as available as Offline Files:
Using the wizard created "Shortcut to Offline Files":
Does not show subfolders
Using a manually created shortcut to a Shared/Offline Files folder on the
server that as been marked as make available offline:
Shows subfolders

Also note:
For a domain user for Offline Files that are also a GPO folder redirection
of his My Documents folder:
The XP My Documents icon shows subfolders
