i find that when i drag my cursor over all or part of a document that i had
recently copied into a newly created e-mail document (outlook 2003/word 2003
email editor) and then decided i no longer wished to have that document
contained in whole or part of that e-mail it correctly highlights all words
that i dragged over, but when i hit the "delete " key on my keyboard to
delete this highlighted and unwanted data, it does not delete...nothing
happens. i further checked that i can place my cursor on the first character
of any word and click and i can then start deleting char by char and that
works ok.. but it is inefficient, especially when i want to delete what could
be hundreds/thousands of words in succession. this had worked fine less than
a few days ago. but something happened and i dont know what.
i am using microsoft opffice 2003 with outlook 2003 e-mail and Word 2003 as
the editor. i would appreciate it very much if someone could tell me how i
can restore the old method of dragging the cursor over to highlight and then
just hitting the keyboard "delete" key.

And that's only in Outlook and not any other application? What happens when
you press Backspace after making your selection or any other character on
your keyboard?

It would help us understand your problem if first you learnt to use the
SHIFT key .

ok to answer your question
yes it happens only in outlook . it just started happening and I dont
know what triggered it. when i hit backspace it will detlete one character
only.. it started happening at about or at the same time as other things
went different in the way they acted then previous... I am trying to think
of an example but I am cmg up blank.. got one... previously when I created an
e-mail the and hit the "view" button it gave me different type of view
selections... I am sorry but I dont remember the selection names but one
would format the message in a different fomat from the other. there are
other things that are not the same but again I am pulling a blank ) it is 145
amed and i have been up since yesterday at 4 amedt so i think it best to
send this out and pick up on this conversation later on this morning after
some shut-eye.. i wil check back early Tuesday afternoon to see if you have
had time to read this... thanks

one last bit of info before I turn in..
to give you and idea and an example of the problem

I create a new e-mail
I use these emails to save a forest.. I used to print stock prices and fund
performances on my printer. now I go to mymsn.com and there I have set up a
listing of stocks that i am interested in... after cob I go to mymsn.com and
copy and paste the listing of stocks with closing price and change etc. I
then paste that info into my e-mail. I then can select some of the entries
such as the DOW, AT&T and Verizon and that results in daily hourly graphs
and stats on these stocks or indices. I copy those and also paste them into
the e-mail.. I also go to FIDELITY sehre my 401k is invested and print a few
of the pages relative to that days changes.. (i have to do this after about
9 pmedt to get the closing data relative to various plans in am invested
in...all this goes into the same email and I use a date in the subject (eg:
today 20080513 COB TUESDAY ) followed by some key values that I put in for
each day... i then send this email to myself and when it comes into my inbox
i move it to a folder where all previous days data in sorted by the subject.
thats it in a nutshell. i no longer print many pages each night but
instead just go to that e-mail folder to see trends, etc.. I have plans on
putting it into an xcell spreadsheet but that has not happened yet.

now up to a week or so ago i could go into that email while i am building
it and just drag my cursor over anything and highlight it and then just hit
the delete key on my kbd and erase it..

i can no longer do that... and I dont know why...

i have gone into "help" and done a successful "detect and repair" and still
have the same problem.. i am wondering if i should mount my original disk and
do a "repair" of office 2003>>> ???

thats it... talk at you later...
