Is there any way to determine the total number of files and folders on a
hard drive (similar to the information that is displayed after right
clicking on a folder, then clicking Properties)? Right clicking on the drive
itself doesn't give this information.

Thanks,

You're one step away. Using Explorer open the drive you wish to
catalog. Do a Right Click box around all files/folders in the Root of
the drive, release Right mouse button and then Left Click Properties.
*Requires that folder view includes Hidden, System & Protected.

Ctrl-A is generally easier (IMO) than 'right click box around', just
ctrl-A, right click, select 'properties', and wait a long time.
