OEM vs Retails Visa Ultimate - problems changing hardware?

I own the retail version of Ultimate and am facing a motherboard upgrade and
new video card this weekend due to a vid card failure. Can I expect
activation problems or should most upgrades go well (I tinker alot with
changing video cards, etc but usually one componet at a time).

So far so good, I am enjoying Vista with very few problems. I was reluctant
to try it before SP1 but some carefull reading seemed to indicate most of
the problems were hype. So far (crossing fingers) I've been able to solve
all my gaming problems and a problem with adobe reader crashing (found a
substitute).

Is the OEM version more restrictive, I hear it is tied to one computer.
Please clarify, thanks.

You have a right to move retail from motherboard to motherboard.
You don't have a right to move OEM from motherboard to motherboard.
With retail you get both x86 and x64 bit versions; with OEM you get
one or the other. OEM makes sense if you aren't going to tinker.

The OEM EULA does NOT say anything about being tied to the motherboard.

You will probably have to do a phone activation when you get done but you
are perfectly within your license to make these changes. Just explain what
happened and the nice Indian man will ask if you are running on any other
computers. Say no and he will give you a new activation code.
